One night air raid sirens went off and one guy forgot that the wall was there. Being half asleep, ran full blast into the wall. Needless to say all h*** broke loose. Boys thought a bomb had landed. Needless to say there were some second thoughts about the wall.

Capt. Albert Rotola or Roltola, from the Washington DC area, was in charge of maintenance. He was a good officer. Later Lt. Alex W. Poniewaz replaced him. Clint Jaeger met Roltola and his family quite a few years ago, after the war, in a Macys' store in Kansas City during the Christmas season. He was a Lt. Col. with the "Missile Site Activation Task Force", Air Force. Lt. Col. Roltola had stayed in the service. He passed away in 1986.

Ford put him on his shoulders and started walking back to the base. MP's saw them and drove both Ford and Snodgrass to the base barracks to sleep it off.
