Took over after Capt Jarmac was moved to another command. Ex P51 pilot. He was shot down behind enemy lines and survived by sucking on sugar beets while trying to get back to safety. Curtis was a big man around 6' 4". The boys referred to his as "Big Jim Curtis". He told the boys, "If I'm with a higher officer, you had better salute. If I'm by myself, don't worry about it." He gave them a lot of freedom, but told them, "When we have roll call, you had better be there."
